Blue Forest petrified wood is so named for the beautiful blue chalcedony that has formed within the cracks and crevices of wood that was buried in a bog 50 million years ago. This petrified wood is often found coated with fossilized algae which created additional spaces and seams in which the blue chalcedony might form. Blue Forest wood exhibit both chocolate brown and black wood grain patterns highlighted and coated with botryoidal (bubbly) blue chalcedony.
